Men's Shearling & Sheepskin Boots

Men's shearling boots from Babylon are made by hand at our family-owned factory, where we have been making shoes since 1997. Every pair in this section keeps natural sheepskin or natural fur against the foot, and the product pages rate them down to −20 °C. Below: how the models differ, how they should fit and what to wear them with.

Which men's sheepskin boots should you choose?

The range splits into a few lines. They share the same idea — warm natural fur inside, a light sole outside — but differ in the upper and the details.

• Frost. Double-face sheepskin with a genuine leather heel counter and a decorative leather tongue insert. The insole is covered with fur. Frost-14 is the best-selling model in this section.
• Short. Double-face sheepskin on a shock-absorbing microporous rubber sole and an anatomical last with a wide toe box that follows the shape of the foot. See Short-31.
• UGM. Double-face sheepskin; some versions add a smooth leather heel counter and bottom trim with a nubuck insert, which protects the lower part of the boot. See UGM-2-18.
• Punch. A genuine nubuck upper with textile straps and a buckle, natural fur inside and a sole of microporous rubber and TPE, light and durable. See Punch-01.
• Frost-11. Double-face sheepskin with a smooth leather face — for men who want the warmth of fur but the look of a leather boot. See Frost-11.

Double-face sheepskin, nubuck or leather: what is the difference?

Double-face sheepskin is one material: the wool stays on the skin, so the outside is suede-like leather and the inside is fur, with nothing glued in between. Nubuck and smooth leather uppers have a separate fur lining. Smooth leather is the easiest to wipe clean after wet pavements; nubuck and sheepskin look softer but like a protective spray before the season.

How should men's shearling boots fit?

Choose your size by foot length in centimetres, not by the size you wear in trainers. Measure in the evening, standing, and compare the result with the table in our size guide, which also gives US and UK equivalents. Men's models come in EU 39–45; some UGM versions start at EU 40.

• Snug at first. Thick fur takes up space. A new pair should hold the foot firmly; the fur settles a little with wear.
• No thick socks needed. Sheepskin works best against a thin sock, so do not size up for heavy socks.

Each model is built on its own anatomical last, so two pairs of the same line fit the same way.

What to wear with sheepskin boots for men

Sheepskin boots look calm and casual. They go best with straight or slightly tapered jeans, chinos and wool trousers worn over the shaft or tucked in. A parka, a quilted jacket or a wool coat all work. Darker double-face models, including the smooth-faced Frost-11, look more restrained; nubuck Punch with buckle straps is the more rugged option. How warm are they, and when are they too warm?

The product pages rate these boots down to −20 °C; Frost and Short give a comfort range of +5 to −20 °C. This is meant for normal walking around town. If you stand still outdoors for a long time, add a warmer sock rather than a bigger size. Above +5 °C sheepskin becomes too warm, and for wet, slushy days a leather boot from our men's winter shoes is a more practical choice.
