How to choose sheepskin boots for your winter?

Start with the construction. MARY slip-ons go on without fastenings, which helps if you take your shoes off often. UG have braided laces. Men’s Short sit neatly under trousers, while the taller UGM and Frost keep snow out better.

Then the insulation. Product pages of double-face sheepskin models state a range of +5 to −20 °C; UGM-1-11 and Frost-11 state down to −20 °C. This is an estimate for normal walking in town: if you stand still in the frost for long, choose a taller model and warm socks. More in our article How to choose winter shoes.

Double-face sheepskin, smooth leather or nubuck: what is outside and inside?

Double-face sheepskin is leather and fur in one layer: the wool grows from the hide, so there is no fabric or glue inside. Frost, UGM, Short and UG are made of it. Frost-11 has a smooth genuine leather upper with natural sheepskin fur inside. MARY is genuine nubuck with natural fur, Nestle is genuine nubuck with faux fur.

Grain leather holds its shape and wipes clean after wet pavements. Nubuck looks softer but needs a water-repellent treatment before the first wear.

Why do sheepskin boots keep feet warm?

Sheepskin wool traps warm air and absorbs some moisture from the foot, so feet sweat less and get colder less. The UGM, Short and Frost product pages describe two more details: a fur-covered insole and a 3.5 cm sole that keeps the foot away from cold ground. The tread on the UGM-1-11 sole helps prevent slipping.

How do the men’s and women’s models differ?

How to choose the right size?

The fur inside compacts a little over time, so a new pair should feel snug but not tight. Measure your foot in the evening in a warm sock and compare the length with the size table of the specific model: lasts differ between models. Men’s Short-01 are made on an anatomical last that follows the shape of the foot, and this model can be adapted to your foot width and instep height — our manager will confirm the details. How not to ruin sheepskin boots in winter?

Dry wet boots at room temperature, away from radiators. Remove salt and dirt straight away, and brush suede and nubuck with a dry brush along the nap. In summer, store the pair in a box or fabric bag. Step by step: How to care for sheepskin boots.

What to wear with Ugg boots, for women and men?

Women’s models go with jeans, leggings, knitted dresses and puffer jackets. Men’s UGM and Frost are worn with straight jeans, cargo trousers, parkas and puffer jackets; the low Short with trousers worn over the boots. Dark colours show city dirt less, light ones are easier to match with winter clothes. Taller models keep snow out better on walks, lower ones are more comfortable for driving.
