Wide Toe Box Sneakers & Boots on an Anatomical Last

Every pair on this page has a wide toe box: the front of the shoe follows the natural shape of your toes instead of tapering to a point, so the toes lie flat and are not pressed together from the sides. All of them are made on an anatomical last — men’s and women’s Space and Alen sneakers, Alen-V felt sneakers, DRIFT, and the Punch and Short sheepskin boots. Each pair is made by hand at our family-owned factory, where we have been making shoes since 1997.

What is an anatomical last?

A last is the form a shoe is built on, and it decides how the pair fits: the width at the toes, the room over the instep, the girth and the length. Fashion lasts are often narrowed at the toe for a sleeker silhouette. An anatomical last follows the outline of the foot instead:

• Wide toe box. The front is broad and rounded, so the big toe and the little toe are not pushed inwards.
• Room over the instep. The upper does not press from above, and on sneakers the laces fine-tune the fit.
• True-to-size fit. The length allowance is already built into the last, so there is no need to size up.
• Roomy fit for wide feet. Space and Alen sit comfortably even on wide feet, without going a size up.

Are these barefoot shoes?

No, and we want to be clear about it. Barefoot (minimalist) shoes combine a wide toe box with a very thin, flexible sole, zero heel-to-toe drop and no arch support. Our shoes share only the wide toe box. Their soles are regular cushioned soles of TPE or rubber; the Punch and Short-31 sheepskin boots stand on microporous rubber, and the double-face sheepskin Space-D on a sole about 3.5 cm high at mid-foot. If you want room for your toes but prefer a familiar feel underfoot — or warmth in winter — this collection is for you.

Which models are in this collection?

Respira is a breathable Italian lining leather. Double-face sheepskin is one piece of sheepskin, leather outside and natural wool inside, with no separate lining. Winterfrost 500 is insulation placed between the upper and the lining. For the full range, see all men’s sneakers and women’s sneakers.

How do you choose the right size?

Choose by foot length, not by the number you wear in another brand. Measure your foot in the evening, standing, from the heel to the longest toe, and compare it with the size chart on the product page: our charts show the recommended foot length, with the allowance already built into the last. Do not add extra length for a wider foot — it only lets the foot slide forward.
