Do men wear sheepskin boots? How to choose a pair and style it

Men's sheepskin boots are practical warm footwear for a city winter, not a women's trend. Here is how they differ, how to pick the material and height, and how to style them, using Babylon models as examples.

In short

Men's sheepskin boots are warm everyday city footwear: a leather upper, natural sheepskin inside, laces and a sturdy sole. Choose double-face sheepskin or smooth leather with a fur lining, and a tall or short cut depending on what you wear. Babylon makes its men's sheepskin boots at its family-owned factory in Kharkiv; the Frost-84 and Short-21 product pages state comfort from +5 to −20 °C. They work best with straight jeans, chinos, joggers and short jackets.

Do men wear sheepskin boots?

Yes, and they are a practical choice for a city winter. Men's sheepskin boots have a leather upper and natural sheepskin inside: warm, light and comfortable for every day. Compared with women's styles, they have a more restrained silhouette, dark colours and laces.

The style began with Australian surfers and pilots and is now worn by anyone who wants warmth without heavy boots. Sheepskin boots are a type of footwear, not one brand. Babylon makes its men's sheepskin boots by hand at its family-owned factory in Kharkiv, Ukraine, where it has produced footwear since 1997. Its product pages list the upper, lining, sole and temperature range, and we will use them as examples.

How are men's sheepskin boots different from women's?

Babylon's men's sheepskin boots have a leather outer face, dark colours, laces and a TPE sole. They look more like insulated boots or high-top sneakers than soft suede boots.

What the men's product pages show:

  • Leather outer face. Frost-84, Short-21 and UGM-1-41 are double-face genuine leather; Frost-11 has a genuine leather upper. A smooth surface looks sharper than suede and is easier to wipe clean.
  • Dark colours. Black and brown: UGM-1-41 is black, UGM-1-44 is the same model in brown.
  • Laces. All five models in this article lace up. UGM-1-41 and UGM-1-44 have strong braided laces that the product page calls a visible design detail.
  • Sole. Frost-84 and Short-21 have a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) sole 3.5 cm high in the middle; with the fur-covered insole, it keeps your foot away from the cold ground.
  • Sizes. Babylon's men's range is mostly 39–45; sizes in stock are shown on each product page.

Double-face sheepskin or leather with a sheepskin lining?

Both are warm because there is natural sheepskin inside. Double-face is lighter, as leather and wool are a single layer. Smooth leather with a fur lining has a denser upper and looks like a classic winter boot.

  • Double-face is a sheepskin tanned with the wool on: leather outside, fur inside. The UGM-1-41 page puts it simply: leather and fur in one layer, warmth without extra weight. Frost-84, Short-21, UGM-1-41 and UGM-1-44 are made this way.
  • Leather upper + sheepskin lining is Frost-11: a genuine leather upper, thick dense sheepskin inside, a fur-covered insole and a TPE sole. Choose it for a clean black silhouette without a visible fur collar.

To tell real sheepskin from faux fur, see our guide “Genuine sheepskin boots”.

Tall or short: which men's sheepskin boots are more practical?

Tall models protect the ankle from snow and wind; short ones are easier to pair with slim trousers and more comfortable in the car or on public transport. Choose by how you get around in winter.

What to wear with men's sheepskin boots: 5 outfits

Men's sheepskin boots work best with casual clothes: jeans, chinos, joggers and short jackets. One rule: trousers should not bunch up on the boots or be tucked into the shaft. Black boots go with black, grey and any denim; brown boots with beige, olive, navy and camel.

1. Straight jeans, a jumper and a short jacket

Dark straight jeans with one or two cuffs, a chunky knit jumper and a short padded jacket or bomber. The cuff ends just above the top of the boot, so the laces and shape stay visible. Black Frost-11 or brown Frost-84 both work.

2. Slim jeans and a down jacket

With slim black or grey jeans, choose a short model like Short-21: the trousers end at the ankle and the silhouette stays light. Add a thigh-length down jacket for a calm monochrome look.

3. Joggers, a hoodie and a parka

Knit or insulated joggers with a cuff above the boot, a hoodie and a hooded parka — a weekend outfit for walks or trips out of town. Tall UGM-1-41 with braided laces suit it: the jogger cuff rests on the shaft.

4. Chinos and a short coat

Beige, olive or navy chinos, a roll-neck and a short wool coat or pea coat. Brown Frost-84 or UGM-1-44 suit warm shades; repeat the brown in your belt or gloves. A long coat below the knee looks heavy with sheepskin boots — keep it thigh-length.

5. Cargo trousers and a quilted jacket

Heavy cotton cargo trousers, a flannel shirt and a quilted jacket make a practical winter outfit for town and country. Let straight-cut trousers fall over the shaft.

General rules on colour and trouser length are in our guide “What to wear with sneakers” — they work the same way here.

What should you avoid with men's sheepskin boots?

Most outfits go wrong because of trousers and weather, not the boots themselves.

  • Tucking slim trousers into the shaft. It shortens the silhouette; wear slim jeans with short models instead.
  • Pairing with creased suit trousers. For formal wear, choose leather boots.
  • Floor-length trousers. They bunch up, get wet at the hem and hide the boots.
  • Going out in slush untreated. Apply a water-repellent product before the first wear, as the product pages advise.
  • Drying on a radiator. Babylon's care notes say heat sources deform the material.

How do I choose the size?

Measure your foot in the evening, wearing the socks you will wear with the boots, and compare it with the size table of that exact model. Almost every Babylon model is made on its own last, so each pair has its own table.

Step-by-step instructions are in “How to measure your foot at home” and on our size guide page. Babylon ships worldwide for free, with delivery in 5–10 business days (7–12 to the US, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, Georgia and Montenegro).

How do I care for men's sheepskin boots?

Remove dirt and salt after every walk, treat the leather with a water-repellent product and dry the pair at room temperature, stuffed with paper. For the smooth leather of Frost-11, the product page recommends a damp cloth and a black leather-and-nubuck cream. Full details are in “Sheepskin boot care”.

FAQ

Is it OK for men to wear sheepskin boots?

Yes. Sheepskin boots with a leather upper and sheepskin lining are ordinary winter city footwear, just like boots or winter sneakers. Men's models have a restrained silhouette, dark colours and laces, so they look like insulated boots. The key is choosing the right height and trouser length so the outfit looks neat.

What temperature are Babylon men's sheepskin boots rated for?

Each model states its range on the product page. Frost-84 and Short-21 are rated for comfort from +5 to −20 °C, Frost-11 down to −20 °C. The UGM-1-41 and UGM-1-44 pages give no temperature; they highlight thick, dense fur and a lightweight sole. The range applies to walking around town, not standing still in the frost.

Double-face sheepskin or leather with a fur lining: which is better?

Double-face is a sheepskin where leather and wool are one piece, so the pair is warm and light. Smooth leather with a sheepskin lining, as on Frost-11, has a denser upper that is easy to wipe clean. Both are warm; the difference is mostly in the look and how you care for the surface.

Can I tuck jeans into men's sheepskin boots?

Better not. Jeans tucked into tall boots shorten the silhouette and look like workwear. Let straight jeans fall over the shaft and cuff slim jeans so they end at the top of the boot. The exception is short models such as Short-21, worn with slim trousers that stop at the ankle.

How do I choose the right size online?

Measure your foot in the evening, wearing the socks you will wear with the boots, and compare the length with the size table on the product page of that exact model. Almost every Babylon model is made on its own last, so one general size chart does not fit all.

Can I wear men's sheepskin boots in slush?

A leather upper handles wet snow better than suede, but treat the pair with a water-repellent product before the season and repeat during winter. Remove salt after each walk and dry wet boots at room temperature, stuffed with paper, away from radiators. This is what Babylon's product pages recommend.
