Women's winter boots from Babylon are built around what keeps a foot warm: thick natural fur, Italian wool, genuine nubuck, suede and leather. Every pair is made by hand at our family-owned factory, where we have been making shoes since 1997. This section brings together three silhouettes, so you can choose by material and by the way you spend a winter day.

What are the main types of women's winter boots here?

• Glori. Classic fur-lined boots on a TPE sole. Most are genuine nubuck; Glori-11 is suede and Glori-19 combines nubuck with smooth leather. Inside there is thick genuine fur.
• Verona. Nubuck on genuine fur with a chunky sole and secure support for the foot. Verona-64 has an upper of natural pony hair, a pair that leads an outfit.
• Cloud. Tall wool felt boots: the shaft is Italian felt, the base is genuine leather, and the insulation is Italian wool on a backing layer. Colours include Cloud-11, Cloud-64, Cloud-72 and Cloud-84.

There is also Cozy-14: nubuck with natural fur inside, a zip and a sturdy sole with a deep tread.

Fur-lined boots or wool felt boots: which is warmer for you?

Both keep the cold out, but they feel different. Natural fur is a dense, soft layer right against the foot. It traps air between the fibres, so Glori and Verona feel warm from the first step and suit frosty days and long walks.

Wool felt works across a wider part of the year. Cloud is listed for autumn, winter and spring. The felt shaft covers the calf and keeps wind away from the leg, while the leather base takes the contact with wet pavements. If you want a boot for the whole cold season rather than only the deepest frost, Cloud is the flexible choice.

Nubuck, suede, leather or pony hair?

• Nubuck. Matt, slightly velvety leather. It looks soft and warm and needs a brush and a protective spray.
• Suede. A softer nap than nubuck and a lighter feel. It wants the same care, with a bit more attention after wet snow.
• Smooth leather. The easiest to wipe clean of salt marks; on Glori-19 it is combined with nubuck.
• Pony hair. Natural hair on leather, a texture rather than a practical choice for slush. Wear it on drier days.

How do you care for nubuck, suede and felt boots?

Treat new nubuck and suede pairs with a protective spray before the first wear and repeat during the season. After a walk in snow, let the boots dry at room temperature, away from radiators, then brush the nap back up. Felt likes the same calm drying and a soft brush for dust. How do women's winter boot sizes fit?

All models come in EU 36–41. Each has its own anatomical last; Cloud is made on a standard last and runs true to size. Measure your foot length in centimetres in the evening, in a warm sock, and compare it with the chart for the model you like. The size guide gives UK and US equivalents.

With a fur lining, choose your usual size measured in a warm sock rather than going a size up: a pair that is too big lets the heel slip and loses warmth.
