What to wear with sheepskin boots: 7 women's outfits for winter

Sheepskin boots are no longer just cosy shoes for home: people wear them with jeans, dresses and tailored coats. Here are seven women's outfits built on real Babylon pairs, and why each one works.

In short

Style sheepskin boots with three rules: balance the volume (slim bottom with a bigger top, or wide trousers falling over the boot), repeat the boot colour once, and get the trouser length right. Easy outfits: wide jeans, leggings under a long coat, a knit set, a midi dress with opaque tights. Babylon, a Ukrainian brand, handmakes women's sheepskin boots at its family-owned factory in Kharkiv: Frost-71, Frost-74, Frost-94, UG-1-41, UG-1-44 and the nubuck MARY slip-ons.

What rules help you style sheepskin boots?

Sheepskin boots look current when the volumes are balanced, the boot colour appears again in the outfit, and the trousers are the right length. A chunky fur-lined boot calls for either a slim bottom with a bigger top, or wide trousers that fall over the pair. These three rules cover every outfit below.

  1. Balance the volume. Slim leggings or jeans go under a long coat, a big puffer or an oversized jumper. Wide trousers go with a shorter jacket or a jumper tucked in at the front.
  2. Link the colour. Repeat the boot colour in a hat, bag, gloves or coat. Black boots tie in with black trousers or tights on their own.
  3. Get the length right. Tuck slim things in, let wide things fall over. Bunched fabric above the boot and a strip of bare skin in winter spoil the silhouette fastest.

We used similar rules for trainers in “How to style sneakers”.

Outfit 1: how do you wear sheepskin boots with wide or straight jeans?

Let wide or straight jeans fall over the boots, so the hem rests on the boot or ends just above it. Low pairs work best here: the MARY slip-ons or the short UG-1-44. Add a fine jumper tucked in at the front and a short jacket.

Wide jeans rest on low boots and still show the shape of the pair.

The wide leg balances a chunky boot, and a light sock keeps the look easy. Try the MARY-99 slip-ons in powder pink or MARY-94 in caramel brown: natural nubuck upper and natural fur inside. With dark denim, the brown UG-1-44 with braided laces also works.

Outfit 2: how do you wear sheepskin boots with leggings without looking like you are at home?

Leggings and sheepskin boots look right when something long goes on top: a knee-length coat, a long puffer or a tunic jumper. Matte leggings in the boot colour lengthen the leg.

The simplest formula is all-black: black leggings, black lace-up Frost-71 and a long dark coat. Frost-71 is one of the taller pairs, with a double-face leather upper and thick sheepskin inside; its card gives a comfort range from +5 to −20 °C.

Outfit 3: how do you style sheepskin boots with a knit set?

A knitted set — jumper with trousers or a skirt — and boots in the same tone make a soft, tonal outfit. Pick a pair the same colour as the knit or one shade darker: beige set with brown boots, grey set with black.

A folded fur cuff makes a cosy match for knitwear.

Try the brown Frost-94: sheepskin inside, a fur-covered insole and an EVA sole. The card photos show the shaft worn up or folded down with the fur outside, and with knitwear the folded version looks especially cosy.

Outfit 4: how do you wear sheepskin boots with a midi skirt or dress?

A midi skirt or dress with opaque tights is the most feminine way to wear sheepskin boots. A midi length does not fight a chunky boot, and tights in the boot colour or darker remove the strip of bare skin between hem and boot.

Taller lace-up pairs that cover the ankle suit this look, such as the brown Frost-74: double-face leather, a heel counter and tongue insert in genuine leather, and a 3.5 cm sole height inside. Choose a coat longer than the dress or a waist-length jacket; anything in between cuts the silhouette.

Outfit 5: how do you wear cargo pants or joggers with sheepskin boots?

Wear cuffed cargos or joggers so the cuff sits on top of the boot or just above it. Add a hoodie or sweatshirt and a short parka or puffer.

The cuff neatly closes the gap. Try the black UG-1-41: double-face sheepskin, with skin and fur as one layer, a light sole that the card says cushions each step, and bold braided laces.

Outfit 6: what do you wear with nubuck MARY slip-ons?

The MARY slip-ons are the lowest shape among Babylon's women's sheepskin boots: a nubuck upper with no laces and natural fur inside. They look best with wide jeans, straight trousers and knitwear, where both the shoe and the sock show.

Four MARY colours for four different wardrobes.

The model comes in four colours: MARY-94 caramel brown, MARY-84 chocolate, MARY-91 black and MARY-99 powder pink. Wear brown with blue denim and beige, black with grey and black, and pink with cream knits. Nubuck is softer than smooth leather and does not like slush, so MARY is a pair for dry days, the car and public transport.

Outfit 7: how do you wear platform sheepskin boots?

A platform makes boots look heavier, so they need volume nearby: a short puffer, a fur coat, wide trousers. With a mini skirt or shorts and opaque tights you get a contrast between a bold base and a slim leg.

UG-1-41 and UG-1-44 have a platform, and so does Frost-74, with a 3.5 cm sole height inside. For height and tread, see “Platform sheepskin boots: how to choose”.

Short or taller sheepskin boots: what goes with each?

Short boots go with wide and straight trousers, leggings under a long top, cargo pants and visible socks. Taller pairs that cover the ankle work better with skinny jeans, tights, skirts and midi dresses. The taller the shaft, the slimmer the bottom half should be.

  • Short (UG-1-41, UG-1-44, MARY slip-ons): your socks often show, so choose them on purpose: cream, grey or matched to your trousers. Let wide trousers fall over.
  • Taller lace-ups (Frost-71, Frost-74, Frost-94): tuck slim trousers in and let straight ones fall over, so the shaft does not create a step.

Men's sheepskin boots follow different rules; see “Men's sheepskin boots”.

What should you avoid when styling sheepskin boots?

Avoid bunched trousers, bare skin in frost, too much fur and too much bulk at once.

  • Straight trousers tucked into boots. They crease and make your legs look shorter.
  • A dress and bare legs in frost. Opaque tights matter for warmth and for the silhouette.
  • A fur collar, fur hat and fur-trimmed boots together. Keep one fur detail.
  • Suede in slush. Choose leather for wet snow and keep suede for dry days.

Which Babylon women's sheepskin boots suit your wardrobe?

For jeans and cargos, the short UG-1-41 or UG-1-44. For dresses, tights and leggings, the taller lace-up Frost pairs. For wide trousers and dry days, the nubuck MARY slip-ons.

To get the size right, measure your foot and check the length against the size chart on the card of the model you want; more in “Sheepskin boot sizing”. What double face means and how to check real sheepskin: “Genuine sheepskin boots”. Delivery is free worldwide and takes 5–10 business days (7–12 to the US, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, Georgia and Montenegro).

How do you keep sheepskin boots looking neat all season?

Salt marks and flattened fur ruin any outfit. Treat a new pair with a water repellent before the first wear, remove salt after each walk and dry boots away from radiators.

For nubuck MARY slip-ons, use a dry nubuck brush and a protective spray, and never wash them. Step-by-step cleaning and drying: “Sheepskin boot care”; for nubuck: “Nubuck and suede care”.

Besides sheepskin boots, Women’s winter shoes has nubuck boots with fur, insulated sneakers and Cloud felt boots — they also work with the looks in this article.

FAQ

Can you wear sheepskin boots with a dress?

Yes. The easiest way is a midi dress or skirt with opaque tights in the boot colour or darker. A midi length does not fight the chunky silhouette, and tights remove the strip of bare skin between hem and boot. Taller lace-up pairs such as Frost-74 work best, with a coat longer than the dress.

Should you tuck jeans into sheepskin boots?

Tuck in skinny jeans, leggings and opaque tights: they sit smoothly and the boot continues the line of the leg. Do not tuck straight or wide jeans. Let them fall over the boot so the hem covers the top of the pair or ends just above it. Fabric bunched above the shaft makes legs look shorter.

What socks go with short sheepskin boots?

With short boots and slip-ons your socks often show as you walk, so they become part of the outfit. Choose warm wool or wool-blend socks in cream or grey with jeans and cargo pants, or match them to your trousers for a sharper look. Keep loud patterned socks for home.

Which sheepskin boots are the most versatile?

Black or brown pairs of medium height with no loud details. Black ones such as Frost-71 or UG-1-41 go with black, grey and any denim. Brown ones such as Frost-74 or UG-1-44 work best with beige, camel, cream knitwear and blue jeans. Pastel colours, like the pink MARY-99, make a good second pair.

Can you wear sheepskin boots to work?

In a relaxed office, yes, if you choose a plain leather pair in a dark colour and wear it with straight trousers, knitwear and a coat. The nubuck MARY slip-ons are handy for the commute by car or public transport. For a suit dress code, choose classic boots and keep sheepskin for the weekend.

How do you match boot colour to your coat?

Repeat the boot colour in one large piece or two small ones: the coat, a hat, a bag or gloves. Black boots need no partner, because black trousers or tights already tie them in. Brown boots look best with a beige or camel coat, and a light sole pairs well with a cream scarf or socks.
